Value Studies

I love people, I really do. Or maybe I should call it fascinated. I am AMAZED by the human body but nothing exudes an individual's character like their face. This value study I did is the prepping stage of my next portrait painting. It helps to become more familiar with the highlights & shadows before I introduce color to the final piece & be more aware of cropping within the frame. As an artist I tend to rush these important stages & although it's not necessary, I find myself with issues in the end that are extremely difficult to fix, alter, or compensate & sometimes just completely irreversible. So here I am, being a little less impulsive for once.

I adore this pose, the expression the irony. I can't wait to let the creation & color flow for the final piece.
