A Little Art History

Today's painting class delved deep (very deep) into color theory which digressed into a little art history. I was intrigued by a couple of artist one of which was Fernand Khnopff. He was a Belgian 17th century artist part of the symbolism movement. The painting above is just great. One can get a very real sense of the surrounding just by what is within the frame.

Another artist I really enjoyed learning about was Henri Lautrec. French. Art Nouveau. What is not to love? My professor spoke about Lautrec's interest in different lighting. The woman on the far right is illuminated from below which is very unnatural lighting. I think it gives it a very mysterious and somewhat creepy vibe. Loving it.
